About Us

Mission Statement

The mission of Staff Council is to represent the interests of and advocate for all staff at the University of Pittsburgh as well as providing opportunities for comprehensive professional development.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement of Intent

Staff Council commits to addressing inequity and imbalance. It is our intent to work to expand the diversity of our campus community by challenging the status quo with bold and brave brainstorming to help disrupt the power structure and systemic racism and sexism that we have allowed to flourish in the city and university that we love. We pledge to use our privilege to amplify voices and to advocate via a staff lens for colleagues, students, faculty, and the university community. Shared Governance

Shared Governance enables discussions to take place among key campus groups prior to decisions being made.  Members of upper administration, faculty, and students all participate in these discussions.  Staff Council serves as a center for input and dissemination of information and provides a means of communication between staff and other members of the Pitt community.

Committees

Five Staff Council sub-committees provide oversight and guidance using Council’s mission as a foundation. Learn more about our committees »

Membership and Meetings

All regular, classified University of Pittsburgh staff members in good standing are invited to become members of Staff Council. Staff Council members are appointed to committees throughout campus to represent staff interests. Our general meetings are open to all faculty and staff, even if you are not a member.

If you’d like to learn more about Staff Council, join us for a monthly meeting!
